Assistant Accountant

About the role

As Assistant Accountant you will support fund controllers to carry out fund services to our portfolio of clients. Fund services provided will include fund management, depositary and fund administration.

Role and Responsibilities on activities as follows:

  • Ensuring that the ledgers are maintained accurately and in accordance with procedures.
  • Preparing the quarterly accounts in accordance with agreed timetable.
  • Maintaining cash balances and the timely reconciliation of bank accounts for those companies that the postholder is responsible for.
  • Prepare payment run and coordinate approval as per agreed procedures.
  • Cash monitoring, assist in cashflow forecasting, and management of cash balances.
  • Support the Fund Controller in respect of the accounting calendar for Audit and Unaudited accounts.
  • Adhere to internal control procedures and make necessary adjustments where necessary to improve their effectiveness and efficiency.
  • To liaise and handle queries with the external and internal auditors, suppliers, clients, and banks as required.
  • Any other task as may be defined by the Fund Controller to meet the operational needs of the department.
  • Build an understanding of Fund Documentations such as LPA, Engagement Letters, IMA and any relevant agreements.
  • Build an understanding of different fund types and structures.
  • Verification of ownership of assets and other safeguarding activities.

Skills, knowledge and expertise:

  • Part-qualified accountant (ACCA) or fully-qualified (AAT), preferably with 2-3 years working experience at a Top 30 accounting firm.
  • Strong bookkeeping to trial balance, including quarter/year end journal, skills, with a real attention to detail.
  • Client and stakeholder management skills.
  • Highly organised with good time management and planning skills.
  • Ability to problem solve, with an inquisitive mind, and capable of being a trouble-shooter.
  • Highly productive, very delivery focused and adaptable to ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in a timely manner for our clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • The capacity to propose positive change and improvements to processes and ways of working, coupled with the energy and enthusiasm to contribute toward the implementation.
